Health and Physical Education
Ongoing:
We are learning about rules and boundaries in a PE class.
We are learning about finding and staying in our personal space.
We are learning to play cooperatively by sharing space with and helping our peers.
We are working on running 2~3 laps on the outside field as warm up to develop our physical endurance
We are working on doing various warm up stretches and physical activities to develop our different muscle groups

Healthy Living and Healthy Eating Unit. We are going to learn to
-identify practices that contribute to health, including healthy eating, regular physical activity, and emotional health practices
Healthy Living: Personal Hygiene Unit. We are going to learn to
-identify practices that help prevent the spread of communicable diseases and conditions (e.g., washing hands, covering sneezes,
not sharing personal items)
Healthy Living: Feelings and Emotions Unit. We are going to learn to
-identify practices that contribute to health, including healthy eating, regular physical activity, and emotional health practices
Healthy Relationship Unit. We are going to learn to
-identify ways families provide support and nurturing for growth and development
-demonstrate an understanding of appropriate and inappropriate ways to express feelings (e.g., appropriate- using “I feel” statements; inappropriate- name-calling, hitting)
-differentiate between positive and negative behaviour in friendships (e.g., positive-sharing, listening; negative- teasing, excluding)
-describe strategies for dealing with common interpersonal conflicts (e.g., taking turns, going to an adult for help)
Safety and Injury Prevention-Private Parts and Appropriate vs. Inappropriate Touches Unit. We are going to learn to
-use appropriate terminology to identify female and male private parts
-differentiate between appropriate and inappropriate ways of being touched (e.g., appropriate-touches that feel welcome and safe, medical check-ups; inappropriate-touches that hurt, touches to private parts)
-identify ways to respond to inappropriate touches and confusing or uncomfortable situations, including
saying “no” or “stop”
-calling out for help and getting away if possible
-telling a trusted adult and continuing to tell until someone listens and takes action
-not keeping a secret about the situation even if someone asks you to
-describe guidelines for safety in the home, at school, on the road, and in the community
Safety and Injury Prevention. We are going to learn to
-Describe guidelines for safety in the home, at school, on the road, and in the community
-demonstrate an ability to access emergency services, including calling 911 and giving relevant information (e.g., name, location, and nature of problem)
Substance Misuse Prevention Unit. We are going to learn to
-demonstrate an understanding of the concept of unsafe substances (e.g., any unknown substance, any substance from an unknown person, any substance used for other than its intended purpose)

June
We will be starting a year-end review unit by playing different sports and fitness activities that we have done this school year.


May
We will be starting the hockey unit.

April:
We will be finishing the kickball unit

March:
We will be finishing the soccer and the fitness station units.
We will be starting the kickball unit.

January:
We will be continuing the soccer unit and indoor fitness station unit

December:
We have started a dance unit.
We are learning different rhythmic movements
We will be exploring different ways of moving our body with music and beats
We are practicing a dance routine
We will present a dance routine at the presenting assembly on Friday, December 8

November:
We are working on developing different muscle coordination using our arms, hips, waists, and legs
We are learning different play gymnastic activities (balancing, moving on lines and within certain space, hopping and jumping)
We will also be doing indoor cardio exercises.

October:
We will continue practicing moving within our personal space
We will follow the rules and stay in the boundaries on the outside field, playground, and indoor activity rooms
We will start the Ball Movement unit in the beginning of this month.
We will play various cooperative games using a ball
We will start the Basketball unit later this month

September:
We are learning about rules and boundaries when playing on the outside field, playground, and indoor activity rooms
We are learning to find and move within our personal space
We are learning to play different tag games and relay games to develop our cardio endurance.
